Universal Baptism Option 2
~Short Version~
Adapted from Francis Thompson and William Blake
Officiant:
Know you what it is to be a child? ... It is to have a spirit yet streaming from the waters of
baptism;
Know you what it is to be a child? ... It is to have a spirit yet streaming from the waters of
baptism;
It is to turn pumpkins into coaches, and mice into horses, lowness into loftiness, and nothing into everything, -
For each child has a fairy god-mother in his own soul; it is to live in a nutshell and count yourself the king of infinite space;
It is: to see the World in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
At the very dawn of creation, God used his spirit to breathe life into the waters, making them the wellspring of life.
We now use this gift of water to welcome this child into this world.
(Officiant pours water gently over child's head and says) :
I baptize you _____as a child of God, as a child of light, and as a child of humanity.
